What we do

There’s always something to do at Age Concern – from popping into our shop and tea room, to enjoying days in our social and activities centre or spending time out and about with new friends.

Tea Room

Situated in our shop on Carlton Hill, the tearoom serves reasonably priced drinks and snacks and is open Monday to Saturday 9am – 2:30 pm.

The Mayfield Social & Activities Centre

The Mayfield Social & Activities Centre meets, in a large room behind our shop, on four days a week (Tuesday to Friday) and provides a range of activities, outings, holidays and opportunities to socialise.

A splendid 3-course ‘home-cooked’ lunch is served and transport is available.

Lunch is available in the centre, without activities, from 12:30-2pm.  Group bookings can be made for a Monday.

Full day at the centre, including tea and toast on arrival, stimulating activity time, 3-course home-cooked lunch followed by coffee and transport to and from the centre £25.

Full day as above, but without transport £15.

3-course lunch only £10.

Telephone Befriending

Our telephone befriending service began during the pandemic and has shown to be a really good way of supporting older adults, if they live alone, or are unable to go out to meet others.

Telephone befriender volunteers call their older adult once a week for a good chat and some wonderful friendships have been made.

Calls are recorded and monitored by our telephone befriending manager, to ensure safety and the success of the service.
